How this works Danish citizenship normally requires around 9 years' continuous residence (about 8 for refugees, and as little as 2 for Nordic citizens), plus permanent residence held first, Proeve i Dansk 3, the citizenship test, self-support and a clean record. Naturalisation is granted by Parliament via twice-yearly bills, so allow extra time. This is an indicative outlook only - see our citizenship guide.
