How it's calculated
- Your categories. Housing, utilities, food, transport, phone, insurance, childcare and the rest. Food scales with the number of adults and children.
- Example starting amounts. They are there to show the shape of a budget, not as averages. Replace each one with your own figures.
- The salary you need. The calculator works backwards through the 2026 tax rules to find the gross salary that leaves enough to cover the budget.

Questions
Are these average costs for Denmark?
No. The starting amounts are examples. Costs vary a lot between cities and households, so use your own numbers wherever you can.
Where do I find real rents?
Look at current listings on rental sites for the area you want. Rents in central Copenhagen are much higher than in Aalborg or Odense.
What about the childcare subsidy?
Parents pay at most part of the cost, and there are discounts for siblings and on lower incomes. Enter what you actually pay after the subsidy.
