  • Valid passportMust be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended stay. Bring both original + colour copy.
  • Completed application form (AR1 or ST1)Download from nyidanmark.dk. Fill digitally or print and complete by hand.
  • Passport-size photoRecent, white background, 35×45mm. Some ICS centres take your photo on-site.
  • Signed employment contractMust state job title, salary (gross annual), working hours, start date, and employer CVR number.
  • Employer’s declaration (if required)Some permit types require the employer to fill a separate declaration. Check nyidanmark.dk.
  • Proof of qualificationsDegree certificates, diplomas, or professional credentials. Originals + certified translations if not in English/Danish/German.
  • CV / résuméUp-to-date, matching the job described in your contract.
  • Proof of accommodation (if available)Lease, hotel booking, or letter from host. Not always required but speeds processing.
  • Application fee payment receiptPay online at nyidanmark.dk before your appointment. Fee varies by permit type (~DKK 3,025–4,595).
  • Biometrics appointment bookedBook at siri-booking.dk. Choose Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, or Esbjerg.
  • Marriage certificate (if family included)Original + certified translation. For family reunification alongside your work permit.
  • Children’s birth certificates (if applicable)Original + certified translation for each child.
  • Health insurance proof (if required)Some permits require private health insurance until you get your CPR and sundhedskort.
  • Previous Danish permits (if renewing)Bring your current residence card and any previous permit letters.

  • Valid passport or EU ID cardOriginal required. Non-EU: bring your residence permit card/letter too.
  • Signed lease or housing confirmationYour lejekontrakt or a letter from your landlord/host confirming your address.
  • Marriage certificate (if registering as a couple)Original + translation if not in Danish/English/German. Needed for both of you to register at the same address.
  • Children’s birth certificates (if applicable)Register children at the same time. Bring originals.
  • EU residence document (EU citizens)Apply with SIRI first, then bring the certificate to Borgerservice.
  • Residence permit card (non-EU citizens)Must be approved before you can register. Bring the physical card or approval letter.
  • Employment contract or enrolment letterProof of your reason for being in Denmark. Work contract, university letter, or business registration.
  • Appointment confirmationBook online at your kommune’s website or International House Copenhagen. Walk-ins possible but slow.
  • Previous address detailsYour last registered address abroad. They’ll ask for it on the form.
  • Phone number and emailDanish phone number preferred. Needed for MitID setup which happens after CPR registration.

A-kasse Application ChecklistWhat you need to join an unemployment insurance fund

  • CPR numberYou need a valid CPR to join. Register your address first.
  • Choose your A-kasseUse our comparison tool. Industry-specific or general (like Min A-kasse, ASE, FTF-A). Prices vary DKK 300–600/month.
  • NemID/MitID readyMost A-kasser require MitID login to complete the application online.
  • Employment contractProof you’re working in Denmark. Some A-kasser accept EU employment history.
  • EU PD U1 form (if transferring from another EU country)Get this from your previous country’s unemployment office. Proves prior insurance periods count.
  • Bank account / payment cardFor monthly membership payments. Most set up automatic withdrawal.
  • Apply within 8 weeks of starting workCritical deadline. If you join later, you won’t get dagpenge for the first year of membership.
  • Consider joining a fagforening tooA trade union provides legal help, salary negotiation, and workplace advice. Often bundled with A-kasse.
