How it works
If you are from outside the EU/EEA you apply to SIRI for a residence permit as an au pair. The host family completes the first part of the online application; you create a case order ID and pay the DKK 4,305 fee, then both sign the au pair contract via Digital Post. Normal processing time is about 3 months.
Costs and Danish lessons
On a first au pair application, the host family must pay a one-off DKK 20,900 (2026) to cover state-funded Danish lessons, this is a condition of your permit and is non-refundable. If you later change host family, the new family does not pay it again. Your pocket money is taxable, so you must get a tax card.
Important cautions
SIRI weighs your education, reasons, any previous au pair stays and whether you are related to the family. One trap: if you apply while in Denmark on a visitor visa and are refused, you can face a 5-year visa penalty period. Philippine citizens also need an exit "Red Ribbon" permit from their own authorities.
