The Positive List, a faster route for shortage jobs

The one-line versionIf your occupation is on Denmark's shortage list, you can get a work permit without hitting the high Pay Limit salary. Your job title has to match the list exactly.

How the Positive List works

The Positive List is Denmark's shortage-occupation route. Unlike the Pay Limit Scheme, it doesn't depend on a high salary - it depends on your job appearing on one of two official lists. If it does, you qualify for a residence and work permit.

The two lists

Both lists are updated twice a year, on 1 January and 1 July, so the exact occupations shift over time.

Your job function must match the list exactlyIncorrect classification of the job function is a common reason for rejection - even for a well-qualified applicant. Confirm your title is on the current list before applying to SIRI.

Applying

The process mirrors other work permits: SIRI application, the case-processing fee (around DKK 6,000-6,800 in 2026, often paid by the employer), biometrics, and a decision usually within about a month. Regulated professions (for example healthcare) may also need Danish authorisation. Once granted, register on arrival.

What if my job drops off the list after I apply?
Your application is generally assessed against the list in force when you apply; check SIRI's current guidance for your case.
Do I need Danish?
Not for the permit itself, though regulated professions may require Danish authorisation or language for the role.
Is the salary irrelevant?
The salary threshold doesn't gate eligibility as it does on Pay Limit, but pay and terms must still match Danish standards.
